Maintenance Planner, Paper Machine 5600 Virginia AveNorth Charleston, South Carolina, 29406United States Job Summary The Maintenance Planner plans and schedules work to be done by the craftsmen in the Charleston, SC Paper Mill.
The planner coordinates the weekly scheduling meetings for maintenance and operations.
He or she is responsible for providing all the necessary information and material that is required to safely and effectively complete the job tasks.
He or she owns and manages the work order backlog.
He or she is responsible for the historical recordkeeping of all pertinent information regarding the equipment in his area and work performed on the equipment.
He or she is expected to be an expert user of the CMMS.
Essential Job ResponsibilitiesWork Order PlanningReceives all work requests for his area and checks them for completeness, accuracy, duplication, and proper approvals.
Modifies the work order as needed to ensure proper information and coding.
Consults with the originator, maintenance supervisor, craftsmen, and or specialists and visits the job site as necessary to determine the best way of executing the work.
Plans work orders by describing basic job steps in the proper sequence and specifying the craft manpower, safety information, materials, technical information, special tools, permits, and equipment needed for each step.
Develops standard job plans (work order templates) for all repetitive jobs.
Checks availability of materials and initiates the procurement of unavailable items.
Obtains or generates sketches, prints and special instructions necessary to complete the work order packet.
Estimates total man-hours required per job to permit the work to be scheduled.
Estimates the total cost of the job including labor and material.
Sends all jobs in excess of $10,000 to Management for capital review.
Daily Schedules & the Work Order ManagementModerates the daily and weekly planning meetings.
Provides the backlog of ready to schedule work to the maintenance supervisor and operations approver.
PMs and Safety Work orders are to be made known and given priority.
The planner manages dates on daily work orders until the work is scheduled.
Reviews completed work orders for changes to work order plans and equipment information.
Outage planningManages the outage backlog by linking all outage jobs to the appropriate shutdown schedule.
Ensures that all outage requests are received by the WMS deadlines.
Leads appropriate pre-outage meetings to ensure the workscope is agreed upon by Maintenance and Operations.
Includes Engineering and Process Control in the development of the outage work scope.
Develops a CPM for major process equipment outages, and provides to all appropriate parties.
Arranges the manpower transfers to provide the required manpower.
Arranges contract manpower when needed.
Arranges vendors and technical resources as needed.
Typically serves as the outage coordinator, and is responsible for communication updates.
Ensures that post outage meetings are held and historical information is captured.
Capital jobsEstimates work orders and sends for capital review.
Provides information for engineering to determine capital needs and AFE creation.
Creates maintenance work orders for labor and stores issues charged to Capital Projects.
Manages capital work.
Updates progress monthly with engineering.
Sets-up required spare parts in the Storeroom.
Closes capital orders when completed.
Notifies engineering when capital projects are complete and the capital order is closed.
RecordkeepingMaintains a library of information on the equipment in his or her area, utilizing the CMMS in addition to hard copy files.
Is the primary person responsible for accuracy of information in the CMMS.
Is responsible for accuracy and completeness of Equipment Parts Lists.
Is responsible for reviewing the job completion forms for any changes to the job plan or parts lists.
Maintains records of outages.
Maintains records of technical reports.
Other ResponsibilitiesTakes an active role in identifying work to be done in his area, and initiates work requests as needed.
Ensures that adequate spare parts are available to minimize downtime.
Ensures Repair and Return Items are being repaired in a timely manner and to the proper specifications.
Owns the CMMS-generated PM System for the areaLearns and understands the processes of their area.
Manages certain contractor repairs in the area.
Works through the RCFA procedure to resolve repetitive problems.
Looks for ways to ensure continuous improvement to the maintenance process.
Strives for Predictive and Preventative maintenance and the elimination of emergency maintenance.
Gives input for the budgeting process, both capital and expense.
Manages towards the budget.
Exhibits a high level of professionalism in the performance of their jobs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position will occasionally fill-in as front line supervision.
Minimum Requirements EducationTwo year technical degree or equivalent work experience.
Previous Work Experience Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to build partnerships with Operations and the Maintenance crews.
Expert use of a CMMS as a maintenance planning tool.
(Avantis by Invensys preferred)Good organizational skills.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Must build relationships with suppliers.
Ability to find and use all available information from industry, internet, technical organizations, etc.
Hands-on experience in a Paper Mill, Power Plant, Chemical Plant, or other Process Industry.
